REVIEW: Edifier X5 Pro - Affordable earbuds you can rely on

In the recent years, wireless earbuds are being necessity for most users. Despite its disadvantage of easily missed placed and can be lost in a instant, wireless earbuds are getting more popular now a days.

We will be reviewing one of the most affordable wireless earbuds in the market right now that has is quality, the Edifier X5 Pro Wireless earbuds

Edifier as a company

Edifier is a global brand that is passionate about sound. Founded in Beijing, China in 1996 by a group of audiophiles, the company's mission has always been to provide the best audio experience possible.

Edifier quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality speakers and headphones, with excellent sound quality, sleek designs, and affordable prices. As the company grew, they continued to push the boundaries of audio technology, developing new innovations to enhance the listening experience.

Edifier X5 Pro

The Edifier X5 Pro is True Wireless Earbuds with active noise cancellation. Based on paper it offers 7 hours music play time and up to 31 hours with charging case. Another highlight feature is it's mobile up that allows you to customize control setting and EQ selection and lastly the IP55 certified dust and splashproof design.

What's inside the Box

Inside the box is very basic, you get the X5 Pro, 2 pairs of ear cushion, a USB-C to USB-A charging cable and the documents

Design

The X5 Pro earbuds are very much look like other wireless earbuds in the market with a more longer stem body. It has a 10mm Dynamic Driver that fits perfecty to any ear size.

The case is also small as a shinny pebble you can see in a shallow pond. It's charging pin is small comparing to other brands that is located on the lower tip of the earbuds making it stealth is the eye.

One cool thing about the Edifier X5 Pro is you can customize the gesture on each side of the earbuds. It does have the double tap, triple tap, tap and hold and even the swipe gestures. This gestures can be customized using the mobile app EDIFIER ConneX

 

EDIFIER ConneX

Speaking of mobile app, it not ususal for a budget wireless earpods to have a mobile app that allows you to manage and customize your earbuds.

The Edifier ConneX allows you to check the following feature of your Edifier X5 Pro. First page will show you the following: Noise Cancellation Controls, Sound Effects, Game Mode and the battery status of both ear buds plus the case.

In the Noise Cancellation Control, you can see the 3 options, Noise Cancellation, Ambient Sound and Noise Cancellation Off.

In the Sound Effects, 4 options you can choose from, Classic, Pop, Classical and Rock. Each sound effect has it's own instrument enhancements.

  

The game mode on the other hand option will let you activate the feature or turn it off.

The option pane of the mobile app can be access on the upper right corner of the app that contains the setting of the earbud gestures

Comparison with other brands

We have compared the Edifier X5 Pro vs our other TWS wireless earbuds and here are some of our findings.

Weight wise, the Edifier X5 Pro is more lighter (36grams) compared to ROG Cetra TWS (51grams).

Performance wise, the Edifier X5 Pro can offer a slight higher aspect of volume versus the gaming earbuds with the same volume level. Gaming mode performance, it does offer a good sound quality playing.

The Noise Cancellation feature offer a good quality but not as good as the gaming earbuds we tried. On the Edifier X5 Pro even if you activate the Noise Cancelling feature, you can still hear some sounds from the enviroment. Other brands offer different level of Noise Cancelling feature.

Though the Edifier X5 Pro have no Noise Cancelling feature on it's microphone, it still has a decent microphone quality, offering a more clear voice even if you are running.

On the battery life, each bud can last roughly 4hrs each, charging will take you around 1-2hrs to fully charge the earbuds. Charging the case from an empty battery will cost you around 3-4hrs which we think is the typical charging time for any earbuds unless you're using a high wattage power brick.

Based on our experience, using the Edifier X5 Pro for longer period (more than 3 hrs) of time will make your ears a bit numb which we eperienced 2 to 3 times.

Wireless Connection

Based on paper the Bluetooth connection is version 5.3 which provides a more stable and longer connection. We tested the connection for around 20-25 meter then totally lost the connection and once you get back on range, it will automatically connects and resume the sound/music you are listening to.

Once draw back we experience is when you do a running / jumping motion while using the Edifier X5 Pro, the connection is getting erratic and the sound / music you listen to is stuttering.

Finding it will cost you an ear

Upon checking the mobile app we notice once feature of the Edifier X5 Pro that is not usual especially on a budget trier wireless earbud. The "Find my product" feature, this allow you to easily locate either of the earbuds if in case you missed placed them. 

This feature will not show you any map where either of the earbud is but the earbud itself will play an audio once you select the missing earbud and press "Search"

The Edifier X5 Pro will produce a warning audio for you to locate them, almost same warning audio you hear when you receive a calamity warning message from NDRRMC.

We tried to simulate the scenario that we left one earbud under a pillow. The warning audio can be heared roughly 5 meters away which is pretty cool.

Conclusion

For the price of PHP 1,349 from Edifier's Shopee Store we can say that the Edifier X5 Pro is an excellent product for it's price to performance ratio. Big factor to this is the Noise Cancelling and the Find my product features that make it worth your money. So we are giving the Edifier X5 Pro a Class A ranking
